KARACHI: MCC Peshawar has lodged four FIRs against the accused caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle gold into the country.
According to details information was received by Collector MCC, Peshawar that an attempt would he made to smuggle huge quantity of gold from Dubai by a passenger coming through Emirates flight.
To foil the attempt, Customs staff was directed to keep strict vigilance. Additional Collector MCC Peshawar constituted a special team comprising Assistant Collector Airport Ashraf Ali Shah, Superintendent Arbab Shabbir, Inspectors Bukht Munir and Muhammad Azhar Naeem to monitor the movement of incoming passengers. While searching the said flight, one suspected passenger was spotted who was trying to use green channel. The luggage of the passenger was thoroughly searched and he was also physically searched, which resulted in the recovery of 56 gold bars (6526 grams worth Rs28 million) concealed in the inner sole of the shoes, worn by him.
On demand, the accused person Mohammad Ismail Khan s/o Mohammad Ajmal Khan could not produce any documentary evidence regarding legal import and lawful possession of the recovered gold.
FIRs have been lodged and investigations are underway.
