Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle heroin to UK

KARACHI: MCC Preventive Karachi has seized 7.75 KG of light brown heroin powder worth Rs77.5 million and arrested several accused including Customs officials. An FIR has also been lodged in this regard.

The arrested persons include Amjad Mehmood Dock Handler, Sepoy Abdul Majid and a Customs janitor Prem, main accused Javed Ali and Hammad Travel Agent.

According to the details, a passenger later identified as  Jawed Ali S/o Qurban All holding UK Passport was spotted at Jinnah International Airport Karachi who was leaving for Heathrow, UK via Musqat. He was asked to declare if he was carrying any contraband goods in his baggage or on his person, to which he replied in negative. Being dissatisfied with the declaration, his baggage comprising of one Dark Grey Colour Hard Top suitcase and one black color hand trolley bag, were examined in presence of two witnesses.

The examination so conducted resulted in the recovery of two polythene bags cleverly wrapped with masking tape glued to trip lid and bottom of the said grey color hard top suitcase. The two polythene packets so recovered were cut open resulting in the recovery of light brown heroin powder found to be 7.75 kg. The recovered heroin was seized along with travelling documents of the passenger.
