KARACHI: The outgoing Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation – FBR, Imtiaz Ahmed has said that Customs is a versatile organization, which deals with clearance of cargo, vigilance, secretariat procedures, administration and management.
He was speaking at a farewell ceremony arranged his honor. Imtiaz Ahmed has retired on October 05, 2016.
He said that he served as Collector MCC Islamabad for three years and this period was the best part of his service.
Referring to his tenure as the President of Pakistan Customs Association, Imtiaz Ahmed, he appreciated the trust of the officers and added that he left no stone unturned in execution of his responsibilities.
Imtiaz Ahmed said all the formations and departments of Customs should work in harmony and coordination to form a synergy. Imtiaz Ahmed after taking charge as Director General created a very positive working relation with all the collectorates.
Imtiaz Ahmed who started his service in 1986, also served as Deputy Director, Additional Director, Director and Director General of Customs Intelligence & Investigation.
He said the Directorate General had been active and efficient despite resource constraints, which is evident from the performance of the Directorate General as smuggled and non-duty paid goods worth Rs5.6 billion were seized in 2015.
Imtiaz Ahmed credited Chairman FBR Nisar Mohammad Khan for his personal interest and guidance, which is reflected in the performance of entire revenue body.
Chief Collector North Sarwat Tahira Habib said that Imtiaz Ahmed Khan has been an efficient officers and he always took his team along and led them when needed.
She strongly appreciated Imtiaz Ahmed’s role in the service’s advancement and progress.
Chairman FBR Nisar Mohammad Khan, Member Customs Nasir Masroor; Chiefs Customs Akhlaq Khattaq, Faiz Ahmed, Dr. Iqbal, Dr. Iftikhar and Zubair Yousfani. Collectors Tariq Huda, Mohammad Saleem were also present.
Collectors Quetta Saeed Jadoon, Collector Peshawar Qurban Ali, Collector Islamabad Arslan Subuctageen, Directors Yaqoob Mako, Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, Irfan-ur-Rehman; Additional Director (Hqrs) Abdul Waheed Marwat, Additional Director Peshawar Ziaullah Shams and several other officers attended the gathering.
Sources said that a summary has been forwarded to Ministry of Finance for the appointment of a new Director General. However, it is also said that Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib will be given the additional charge of the Director General I&I-FBR until the appointment of a regular incumbent.
Sources further said Mohammad Saleem who is currently attending Senior Management Course (SMC) is the prime candidate for the office of DG I&I-FBR because of his service record. This is a very sensitive position, therefore a reputed and competent officer needs to fill the vacancy.
Tariq Huda is also attending SMC and it is said that after the completion of his course in December, Tariq Huda would join back as Collector Preventive, which is with Saifuddin Junejo as additional charge.
