KARACHI: Customs Sukkur has seized 2290 liters of smuggled Irani diesel in cans concealed in a truck loaded with coal.
A large quantity of diesel used to be smuggled into Pakistan from Iran and was openly sold in the market. Several oil marketing companies (OMCs) were also found to be involved in this smuggling business being carried on in an organized manner.
The diesel was easily being smuggled and transported to several cities including Karachi even fuel stations were established, which were selling smuggled commodity.
However, Pakistan Customs launched a campaign against the smuggling particularly diesel smuggling and under the able leadership of Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram, Collector Hyderabad Agha Shahid Majeed and Additional Collector Umar Shafique & Rahmatullah Vistro the entire diesel smuggling and distribution network was broken.
There was a time when smuggled diesel was openly transported in tankers, but now the desperate smugglers attempted to transport he commodity in cans concealed under coal, but that bid was also foiled.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Customs is pursuing a rigorous anti-smuggling drive and Chief Collector Mohammad Zahid Khokhar has directed all the formations to be extra vigilant.
