KARACHI: Justice (Rtd) Malik Manzoor Hussain, newly appointed chairman Customs Appellate Tribunals on Monday vowed to deal with the huge pendency as soon as possible.
He was addressing at a reception held in his honour by Customs and Sales Tax Practitioners Association at Customs Appellate Tribunal Karachi.
I believe in deeds not words and assure you that difference will be seen not in months but just in a month time, he said responding to the issue of delay and increasing pendency that occurred due to delay in appointment of Chairman of the appellate tribunal. More than 1300 cases piled up and awaits marking to the different appellate benches.
We have started working on pending cases and it would be resolved soon, he said assuring justice in all appeals. He also said that he will meet the executive body of the association in a day or two to discuss the issues facing the bar.
Earlier Zia-ul-Hasan advocate, Honorary Secretary of Customs and Sales Tax Bar Association welcome the new chairman. In his introductory remarks, he said that new chairman during his two years tenure as judge of Peshawar High Court made record disposal. This fact was acknowledged by the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, he said hoping that under new chairman, Customs Appellate courts will see a turn-around in terms of disposal of appeals.
