KARACHI: Director General Transit Trade Muhammad Javed Ghani chaired a meeting of regional directors of Transit Trade and expressed satisfaction on the steps taken to ensure enhanced coordination between entry/exit transit stations for re-examination of suspected/selected consignments.

Exit directorates including Directorates of Peshawar and Quetta were advised to monitor the transit time and seek explanation of the bonded carriers, examination of cargo may be done in cases of suspected/inordinate delays.

In order to make Afghan exports to Wagha more secure, the meeting decided that regional offices at Peshawar and Quetta determine timelines for the movement of trucks; a ratio of re-examination at Wagha will also be defined and tariff rates of Afghan exports will also be studies to determine a viable system of examination at Wagha.

The Director General advised Directors of Quetta and Peshawar to immediately implement Rules regarding movement of only perishable export transit cargo in trucks.

The exit directorates will continue to create sufficient deterrence in case of forward/reverse commercial/non commercial, transit cargo, to thwart any attempt of enroute pilferages through selective/ransom inspections and examinations at entry and exit points.

There will be zero tolerance for slippages, illegal practices and deviations on any account.

The Directorates will hold meetings with bonded carriers, officers of the Preventive and Transit Offices in order to streamlining the identification system/data of the drivers for the transport of Afghan Transit and scrutinize data of one week in order to check the trends of change in drivers at exit stations.
