KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Khadim Hussain Shaikh on Firday issued notices to the Director General, Customs Valuation in a petition filed by an importer Hanif Enterprises.
Saadat Yar Khan advocate appearing for the petitioner said that his client has challenged the assessment of his consignment under Valuation Ruling 787 of 2016 which was issued in January 2016 and lapsed in April 2016 after which the Directorate of Valuation issued a new VR in respect of NBR. He said that when consignment of his client reached the port, a GD was filed under new VR but Valuation department officials are insisting on assessment under lapsed VR. The lapsed VR determined the value at US $ 2070 per metric ton whereas under new VR has been reduced to US $ 1300 per metric ton.
The bench after hearing the counsel for petitioner while issuing notices to the respondents including DG Valuation adjourned further proceedings indefinitely.
