KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has lodged 13 FIRs against M/s AMI Pakistan for importing goods, which are otherwise banned, through mis-declaration and manipulation in the documents.

An official said that FIRs were lodged against AMI Pakistan, a subsidiary of Marine Group – Capt. Haleem Siddiqui is the Chairman of Marine Group, for feeding wrong information regarding port of loading and origin of goods into Pakistan Customs Computerized System (WeBOC) to affect clearance of banned goods.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd has committed a fraud by issuing of switch Bills of Lading in connivance with several importers and got cleared polyester fabric, polyester yarn and grey fabric by mis-declaring the vital information with regard to the shipper’s name, port of loading, country of origin.

Importers booked by Appraisement East in FIRs include M/s Russhco, M/s Jacquard International, M/s R.J Corporation, M/s Sturm Fashion Company, M/s N.P Corporation, M/s N.A.I & Company, M/s Multi Trends International, M/s Goodwill Traders, M/s R.J Textile, M/s Attire Fabrics, M/s UHL Company, M/s Brilliant Corporation and M/s A.J Knitting.

Official said the goods were actually shipped by AMI Middle East, LLC, Dubai, in the name of AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, Karachi as consignee and port of loading as Dubai but AMI Pakistan while issuing of House Bills of Lading and filing the Import General Manifest (IGM) fraudulently manipulated the shipper’s name as Ziangniong Corporation,  China, and port of loading as Ningbo, China

Official said during the course of scrutiny it transpired that the aforesaid consignments were shipped from Dubai. AMI Pakistan in connivance with importers electronically fed incorrect information with ulterior motives in the system at the time of filing Import General Manifest and issued manipulated House Bill of Lading showing wrong shipper’s name and country of origin.

The imported goods are not importable from India as per Import Policy Order in vogue. Manipulation/change of Port of loading of Dubai to China  and country of origin has prima facie been done to import otherwise banned polyester yarn and fabric.

Sources said it was established beyond any shadow of doubt that the above mentioned consignments were actually imported from Dubai instead of China as was evident from the Master Bills of Lading.

MCC Appraisement detected the fraud and lodged FIRs consequent upon information from MCC Appraisement West, Karachi to the effect that M/s AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd had committed a fraud by issuing of switch Bills of Lading.
