KARACHI:  Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) visited NAB Karachi Bureau for annual inspection.

NAB Chairman’s Inspection & Monitoring Team (CI&MT) was deputed to conduct annual inspection of NAB Karachi Bureau for the year 2015. The inspection was carried out from January 06 to January 08, 2015 in order to review and evaluate the performance of NAB Karachi Bureau on the basis of a quantified grading system on the basis of the newly introduced quantified grading system.

Senior member, Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) along with his team conducted the said inspection for the year of 2015. He gave a detailed briefing to Chairman NAB about the inspection done and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of NAB Karachi Bureau.

He informed that on the directions of the Chairman NAB, a quantified grading system has been devised. Under this grading system, the performance of all NAB’s Regional Bureaus is being evaluated during January and February 2016 at a uniform criteria. 80 % mark will be considered “Outstanding/Excellent”, between 60% to 79% will be considered as “Very Good”, between 40% to 49% will be considered as “Good”, while marks less than 40% will be considered as “Below Average”.

The NAB chairman said NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organization assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. It operates under the National Accountability Ordinance-1999 which is extended to all of Pakistan, including FATA and Gilgit Baltistan. NAB has its Headquarter at Islamabad while it has seven regional bureaus located at Karachi, Lahore, Pehsawar, Quetta, Sukkur, Multan and Rawlapindi.

Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said that NAB Karachi is one of the important regional bureaus of NAB. It played prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB, he said. During the briefing, the chairman was informed that NAB Karachi has disposed of 6798 complaints during the year 2015. The numbers of complaints disposed in 2015 were higher than the number of complaints disposed in 2014 or any of the previous years.

In 2015, NAB Karachi out of 270 complaints verifications (CVs), completed 214 complaint verifications. NAB Karachi out of 407 inquiries, completed 328 whereas out of 240 investigations 128 investigations were completed on merit. During 2015, NAB Karachi has arrested 172 corrupts and filed 101 corruption references during 2015. The conviction rate was 63 percent. During 2015, NAB Karachi has recovered Rs. 18.55 Billion during one year which is a record achievement.

Chairman Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) in view of the assessed annual performance based on evaluation under quantified grading system prepared by the Chairman Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) graded NAB Karachi’s performance as outstanding/excellent with  88% operational efficiency index.

Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said that under quantified grading system prepared by the Chairman Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) graded NAB Karachi’s performance as outstanding/excellent with  88% operational efficiency index is appreciated. He said that NAB Karachi’s excellent performance under the supervision of DG NAB Karachi Col (R) Siraj ul Naeem has been more than any one past year in the history of NAB Karachi. He directed all officers/officials of NAB Karachi to work hard to further improve your excellent performance. He further directed all ranks of officers/officials of NAB Karachi to work more vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.

He said that CI&MT has done good work. He said that there is always room for improvements; however excellent work always gets appreciated and shows commitment of the NAB Bureau.

Sources said NAB is collecting details of assets and bank accounts of the officials and officers and their family members of Sindh Building Control Authority.

Several officials and engineers have made illegal money and are still causing loss to economy.
