KARACHI: Director General Customs Intelligence & Investigation Imtiaz Ahmed has transferred three officials of I&I ASO Karachi for their suspected involvement in smuggling and links with unscrupulous elements.
Deputy Superintendent Haji Aslam and Inspector Pervez Zardari have been transferred to Sukkur while Inspector Akmal Hashmi has been transferred to Hyderabad. There were several complaints against these officers and they were said to be patronizing pilferage and replacement of Transshipment (TP) cargo.
Moreover, these officials are reported to have been receiving ‘extortion’ from various markets and warehouses housing smuggled goods including M/s Imtiaz Supermarket. The same trio has also been involved in smuggling of Irani diesel.
These officials had kept some so-called ghapla type journalists on payroll while 12 private persons were also working with them. These private persons had been provided fake Customs ID cards. One such person identified as Sadiq pretends to be a senior intelligence officer, Mehmood as inspector and Shahzad as inspector.
Moreover, it is reported that these officers and their associates were using smuggled vehicles after fixing them with fake government number plates.
An official said that these officials also leaked information regarding raids on various markets and warehouses.
Sources said DG I&I Imtiaz Ahmed had enough evidence against this cartel. These officials had grown quite strong having influence in politics, government and establishment.
Sources said Director Asif MArghoob Siddiqui and Additional Director Nadeem Ahsan were assigned this inquiry who furnished details of their wrongdoings.
Sources said it is likely that these officials would not join their new offices and instead take leave until they are posted back to some lucrative position.
