KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has requested the Ministry of Finance to consider the proposal and approve the grant of higher time scale (BPS-17) to the Superintendent Customs, Superintendent-Preventive Service and Principal Appraiser in the Customs Department on the analogy of same benefit already allowed to the Superintendents of Ministerial cadre in Ministries, Divisions and Departments.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) submitted a proposal to the Establishment for up-gradation from BPS-16 to BPS-17 of the posts of Superintendent Customs, Superintendent Preventive Service and Principal Appraiser in the Customs Department. The issue was recently discussed by the Senate Standing Committee on Finance & Revenue in its meeting wherein representatives of Finance Division and Establishment Division were also invited.

The Establishment Division noted, “In this regard; it is proposed that the FBR may be requested to address the issue at hand by drawing analogy from grant of higher pay scale as has been done in case of Superintendents of Ministerial Cadre by the Finance Division who have been granted BPS-17 but have not been placed in regular BS-17. This will give the incumbents of the posts benefit of salary/pay of BS-17 and will mitigate the feelings of discontent to a large extent. It is pertinent to mention here that grant of higher pay scale being financial matter exclusively pertains to Finance Division.”

Finance Division is, therefore, requested to consider the proposal and approve the grant of higher time scale (BPS-17) to the Superintendent Customs, Superintendent-Preventive Service and Principal Appraiser in the Customs Department on the analogy of same benefit already allowed to the Superintendents of Ministerial cadre.
