KARACHI:- Additional Collector, Customs, Hyderabad was ordered to release 68 vehicles by Oct 19 completing all formalities.

The bench comprising Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar earlier heard a contempt of court application filed by petitioners/importers who stated that despite order of the court, vehicles are not being released.

The court inquired from the alleged contemnor Omar Shabbir about their response to contempt of court applications and also about release of the vehicles. The alleged contemnor told the bench that undisputed amount of duty was yet to be paid.

The counsel for petitioners said that he has paid differential amount of duty and taxes and a certificate has been obtained from the Nazir of the court. He conceded that main amount of duty remains to be paid due to procedural hitches.

The bench then directed the petitioner to approach the respondents/alleged contemnor who was also directed to facilitate the completion of procedure and payment. The bench ordered that this exercise be completed by Oct 19 while a report be submitted to the court on Oct 21, the next date of hearing.

The bench adjourning the proceedings directed the AC Customs to issue a delay detention certificate also.
