KARACHI: Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs) has conducted 6-day mandatory course of Customs Agents, which is mandatory for their license renewal.

As many as 1850 Customs agents are due to get their licenses reviewed in 2015. Customs agents are required to renew their licenses every two year.

This training is being conducted with the cooperation of Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA). In past no such training was imparted for the renewal of licenses.

KCAA in cooperation and coordination with Syed Tanveer Ahmed Director Training & Research formed a program and divided the Customs agents into 15 batches. Three batches of agents have already been imparted the mandatory training. The rest of the agents would be imparted training after the holy month of Ramadan.

Khurram Ejaz Secretary General of KCAA talking to Customnews.pk said Collector Appraisement Mohammad Saleem refused renewals on undertaking as it was against the rules. Therefore, KCAA approached Syed Tanveer Ahmed so that a workable plan could be formed.

KCAA also submitted Rs3,500 per agent as contribution to the Training Welfare and Facilitation Fund. Sources said that this was a very hectic task as managing such a large number of agents and collecting the fee from them was not at all easy. However, KCAA managed this task.
