Trade bodies are pressurizing the authorities, sources said that these trade bodies were in fact against the interests of the country and whenever the authorities take any action against unscrupulous elements, these trade bodies use their influence to stop the same.

DG I&I Customs Lutfullah virk planned to raid the godowns/warehouses full with smuggled goods, but the pressure by these so called trade bodies increased and that campaign had to be stopped.

A senior official said that office bearers of prominent trade bodies were involved in high-level corruption and money laundering. It is the need of hour that a code of conduct should be framed for these trade bodies and a strict vigilance should be kept on the affairs of this mafia.

Another official said that there were sufficient evidence regarding the involvement of the office bearers and members of various trade bodies in corrupt as well as criminal activities including money laundering and the concerned authorities particularly army high-ups should take note of this situation and a ‘crack down’ should be initiated against this mafia.
