KARACHI: The Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) Customs of Multan has lodged FIR against auto mobile parts importer for defrauding exchequer through mis-declaration of Rs1.436 million.

According to details, Director General I&I (customs) Lutfullah Virk had this information that M/s Bilal Auto Mobile, Lahore had evaded duty and taxes by mis-declaring the description, quantity, Import origin and value of the auto mobile parts.

The subject imported consignment had been cleared from MCC, Port Qasim and was to be transported to Lahore. Acting upon the said information a raiding party was constituted under the supervision of Amjad Pervaiz, Senior Intelligence Officer consisting of Gul Muhammad, Gulzar Ahmed and Muhammad Afzal etc. Additional Director I&I (Customs) Multan Nisar Ahmed supervised the entire operation.

The raiding party intercepted the truck carrying the goods. The driver of the vehicle provided copy of GD showing the clearance of goods from Port Qasim and dispatched thereof to Lahore. Since the information was authentic and there were no proper arrangement for weighment, examination and counting of the goods on the spot, the subject trailer along with the container was brought to the office of the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Multan and detained.

Later one Muhammad Arshad being the authorized representative of the importer appeared and the subject container was de-sealed in his presence. Thorough examination of the subject container was conducted in his presence and other witnesses which led to the recovery of goods with vague descriptions concealing the actual weight.

Moreover, images loaded by the Examination Officer in the automated clearance system of WeBOC were also perused which transpired that the words “Genuine auto parts” were clearly visible on the cartons but the EO did not incorporate this aspect in his Examination Report and the Appraising Officer as well as Principal Appraiser also over looked this aspect while assessing the goods.

Hence, it has been developed that the consignment was imported and got cleared by M/s Bilal Auto Mobiles by committing mis-declaration in description, quantity, import origin, weight and got assessed the same on lower value in connivance with the Examination Officer namely Syed Hammad, Appraising Officer Imtiaz Hussain Khan & Principal Appraiser Safdar Abbas posted at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and Government Exchequer was deprived of its legitimate revenue to the tune of Rs1.436 million.
