KARACHI: The MCC Appraisement West has found short realization of revenue due to mis-declaration/mis-assessment of classification of hand pallet trucks imported and cleared against six goods declarations.

R&D West has started scrutiny to identify cases of mis-classification following the directives of Collector Appraisement West Mohammad Saleem. A team was formed comprising Additional collector Nayyar Shafique, Principal Appraiser Abdul Qayyum, Shahid Ibrahim Dasti, Appraising officer Sher Khan and Anwer Zaib.

During the course of post-importation check, it has been found that the imported hand pallet trucks have been declared as well as assessed under lower rated tariff by mis-declaring/mis-assessing the HS Code: 8427.9000 feting customs duty at the rate of zero percent (2014) or customs duty at 5 percent (2013) which were correctly classifiable under appropriate HS Code: 8716.8090 feting duty at 15 percent. Consequently an amount of Rs1.397 million remained short realized against six cases.

Scrutiny is underway and it is hoped that more cases would be detected.
