KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence Karachi in July-October 2014 detected 115 cases of evasion of duty and taxes involving evasion of duty and taxes of Rs.960 million.
The Directorate seized smuggled goods and huge quantity of hashish worth more than Rs.1.0 billion. Cases have been sent to the adjudicating authority for recovery of duty and taxes.
In the same months last year, the Directorate had seized smuggled goods worth Rs.70 million.
During Financial Year 2013-14 evasion of duty & taxes to the tune of Rs.34o million was and in the current financial year evasion to the tune of Rs967 million was detected.
As a result of strict measures taken by the Customs Intelligence Karachi an amount of Rs14 million was recovered as additional duty and taxes in these four months as against recovery of Rs32 million in the corresponding period last year.
On a query Director Customs Intelligence Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui informed that sized goods included 160,000 liters diesel, 10 tons of fine quality hashish, 21,940 kilograms of foreign cloth, 14 vehicles, 28,825 kilograms Poppy Seed, huge quantity of tyres, auto parts, scrap, L.E.D T.vs and other goods etc.
He added that the operation was conducted in line with anti-smuggling strategy devised by FBR under the instructions and guidance provided by the Director General Customs Intelligence Lutfullah Virk.
Law enforcement agencies especially Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Maritime Security Agency and Police also provided complete assistance in the campaign against smuggling.
He resolved that anti tax-evasion and anti-smuggling campaign would be expedited to secure national revenue.
