KARACHI: The duty and tax collection of Pakistan customs posted a marginal increase of 2.2 percent during first eight months of current fiscal year owing to fall in sales tax and federal excise duty collection.
The collection of duty and taxes from import and exports consignment clearance recorded at Rs208.48 billion during July – February, 2012-2013 comparing with Rs204 billion in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.
The break up of collection by MCC PaCCS and Appraisement showed that customs duty increased by 8 percent to Rs74.36 billion from Rs68.89 billion. The collection of sales tax fell by two percent to Rs100 billion from the previous collection of Rs102 billion. The income tax collection depicted growth of 5.75 percent to Rs33.03 billion from Rs31.24 billion. The collection of federal excise duty declined sharply by 42.52 percent to Rs941 million from Rs1.63 billion.
