KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive, Karachi has foiled a bid of smuggling non-duty paid diesel into Pakistan and arrested six accused here the other day. According to details, ASO had a tip-off that Iranian diesel was to be smuggled into Pakistan in a wooden boat Al-Akbari. The ASO acted on the information and intercepted the said boat in Pakistani waters near Mubarak Village. On inspection, it was found that the boat crewed by six persons was purposefully designed to smuggle POL products and the ASO staff recovered 31,000 liters of Iranian diesel from the concealed tanks in the boat. The tindal of the boat failed to provide any legal documents to substantiate the legitimacy of the possession of the diesel. Therefore, it was established that the diesel recovered from the aforementioned wooden boat was smuggled /non-duty paid and was brought from Iran through unauthorized routes. The diesel so recovered and the wooden boat has been seized by the officials and an FIR of the case was lodged and the accused persons arrested in this case were presented before the Special Judge (Customs, Sales Tax and Federal Excise) who have remanded them for investigation. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
