KARACHI: MCC Appraisement West has lodged an FIR against M/s Dawn Leather Industries for misusing SRO 492(I)/2009 causing revenue loss to the national exchequer.

Information was received through Collector Ashad JAwad that M/s Dawn Leather Industries was involved in clearance of their imported goods while misusing benefits of concessionary SRO. Additional Collector Saeed Watto formed a team supervised by Deputy Collector Falak Sher and comprising Principal Appraiser Abdul Qayyum and Appraising Officers Ghani Soomro and Mohammad Ahmed to visit the premises and registered addressed of the importers for physical verification.

It was transpired that the registered property was owned by M/s Al-Fakhar Traders while the manufacturing unit of M/s Dawn Leather Industries did not exist, but a single room rented to Mohammad Ashraf to collect the correspondence.

Available documents showed that Mohammad Ashraf is a manager of the company and claiming that a factory is running in the name of M/s Dawn Leather Industries at the said premises. Preliminary investigations found that Abdul Waheed in leagure with Mohammad Ashraf are involved in the fraudulent clearance by misusing the facility under SRO 492(I)/2009 and defrauded the exchequer of revenue to the tune of Rs5.74 million.

An FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
