KARACHI: President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Abdullah Zaki has said that any attempt to modify the existing WEBOC system at Customs will not be accepted at any cost as it will promote corruption.
In a statement issued, President KCCI, Abdullah Zaki said that it has come to his knowledge that FBR is considering to modify the existing WEBOC system which has triggered anxiety amongst the members of the business community. “It will make procedures more complex and open doors for corruption. If modified, it will terribly affect the export and import activities in the country”, he added.
He said that the existing WEBOC system forwards cases to any custom officer reducing the chances of corruption but after modification, these cases will divided and forwarded to specific Groups comprising of few officers, which will obviously pave way for corruption.
He urged the Chairman FBR not to consider any idea of modifying the existing WEBOC System, which if altered will be widely protested by the business community. “I am unable to understand why FBR is disturbing the WEBOC system which is functioning normally”, he added.
