KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue has substituted the para 116 of Customs General Order No.12/2002.
According to the new para, vehicles to be treated as ambulances must have the following specifications:
1. Rear panel and rear step.
2. Stretcher of 8ft length minimum in case of hiace type vehicles and 6ft in case of minivan type vehicles.
3. Folding seats for 2-4 persons.
4. Oxygen supply system with cylinder.
5. Rotary lamp and siren.
6. Fire extinguisher.
7. Hooks for intravenous infusion giving sets/bottles.
8. Small cabinet for medicines.
9. Nebulizer, room light, examination light, wiring switch sockets 12 volt.
10. Water resistant floor.
11. Suction unit.
12. Suspension system of base vehicle to be spring and shock absorber type and not exclusively of leaf spring type.
13. Permanent markings as ambulance on the front and rear of the vehicle.
This would arrest the import of private and public use vehicles in the name of ambulances.
