KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Exports, Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ), has successfully thwarted an attempt to export a significant quantity of jaggery (Gur) to the United States. This export is prohibited under the Export Policy Order 2022, aiming to regulate and control the export of specific commodities.

A piece of critical information was communicated by Saadia Sheeraz, Collector (Exports) PMBQ, to Zehra Tahir Naqvi, Additional Collector (Exports) PMBQ, highlighting an illegal attempt by a local exporter. The concerned exporter, identified as M/s Dream Food Industries (NTN: 6879421), in collaboration with Customs Clearing Agent G.S.S. Traders, had filed Export Goods Declaration No. KPPE-SB-166346-16-01-2025. The declaration listed a range of miscellaneous food items such as fried onions, spices, dried fruits, and soft drinks, alongside household goods like non-stick frying pans.

Upon receiving the tip-off, Usman Hameed Butt, Deputy Collector (Exports) PMBQ, quickly assembled a team of examination officers to inspect the consignment thoroughly. During the meticulous 100% examination of the container (bearing No. TLLU5365965), the team unearthed 6,009 kilograms of jaggery (Gur) concealed at the far corners of the container.

In light of the discovery of the banned goods, the consignment was promptly confiscated, and a contravention case was initiated against both the exporter and the clearing agent. The Collectorate is currently conducting a detailed investigation to identify and hold accountable all individuals involved in this transgression.

The Collectorate of Customs Exports at PMBQ remains resolute in its commitment to upholding and enforcing the Export Policy Order 2022. Authorities have expressed their determination to implement stringent measures and ensure compliance with export regulations to prevent such violations in the future.

This operation underscores the vigilance and efficiency of the customs authorities in safeguarding the integrity of the country’s export policies, thereby reinforcing the rule of law and maintaining a fair trade environment.

Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ) is a major port in Pakistan, playing a pivotal role in the country’s trade and commerce. The Collectorate of Customs Exports at PMBQ is dedicated to regulating and monitoring export activities to ensure adherence to national policies and international trade standards.
