The Customs Collectorate JIAP has ordered an inquiry into the clearance of goods that were declared at a lower value than their actual assessed value, and where the required financial instruments were either missing or insufficient.
The order was issued after the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Karachi detected a massive smuggling racket at the airport involving some Customs staff.
According to the order, all Section Heads/Incharge are directed to submit a detailed report on the clearance of goods declarations (GDs) through this Collectorate during the last one year, where the declared value was less than USD 500 but the assessed value was more than USD 500.
The report must be submitted within seven days of the issuance of the order.
The order also directed all Appraising/Preventive Officers posted at examination and assessment to ensure that the attached invoices as retrieved from airline pouches are endorsed by MCD Section at AFU/ICG/DHL, JIAP, Karachi.
In case of GDs cleared through AFL/ICG/DHL, JIAP, Karachi via Green Channel, the Gate Officers concerned are directed to retain the endorsed invoices for record.
