In a series of anti-smuggling operations, the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs (I&I-Customs), Gwadar seized various essential commodities, diesel, betel nuts and non-duty paid (NDP) vehicles worth Rs. 59.03 million. The operations were carried out on the instructions of Director General I&I-Customs and under the leadership of Director Dr. Tahir Qureshi.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate, the seized items include 1,100 bags of sugar, 17,060 liters of diesel / high speed diesel (HSD), 1.95 metric tons of betel nuts and three NDP vehicles. The sugar was being smuggled to Turbat under fake documents, while the diesel and betel nuts were being transported illegally in different vans and buses. The NDP vehicles include a Toyota Land Cruiser model 2009, a Daihatsu Mira model 2017 and a Toyota Vitz model 2012.
The Directorate said that it has intensified its crackdown against smuggling of essential commodities, contraband items and POL products in the region. It added that it will continue to follow the directives of the Director General I&I-Customs to curb the menace of smuggling and protect the national economy.
