KARACHI: The judicial Magistrate has send Customs officials Tariq Mehmood and Yawar Abbas to judicial custody.
The accused were presented before the Judicial Magistrate and Investigation Officer of FIA Anti-Corruption circle sough further physical remand so that accused could be interrogated further.
However, Court observed the matter pertains to alleged corruption and evidence is purely in documentary form, hence there is no requirement for further physical remand as apprehensions of tampering with the documentary evidence is unlikely.
According to a local Urdu publication, the speed money used to transport from Karachi to Islamabad by road, but this transportation had exposed. Therefore, corrupt officers decided to transport the collected speed money/bribes in the form of gold bars.
A jeweler in Karachi also provided details of 62 gold purchased by Customs official Tayyab.
The local daily also reported that another government officer namely Aijaz Butt is also identified and he is reportedly involved in illegal clearance of betel nut.
