KARACHI: ASO of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi has seized smuggled goods worth Rs92 million in three days, in line with the instructions of Director General I&I Faiz Ahmed to curb the smuggling to the maximum extent given the prevailing economic turmoil.

I&I Karachi Director Saquif Saeed has instructed Additional Director Nausheen Faisal, Deputy director Inamullah Wazir to increase vigilance and further strengthen the intelligence network, which has resulted in frequent seizure cases.

Information was passed through Saquif Saeed regarding a cartel involved in organized smuggling of clothes. It was also known that the said group was involved in dumping smuggled cloth at a warehouse in Liaquatabad area, wherefrom the goods are distributed to various markets in the city.

A raid was subsequently conducted on the reported premises, which led to recovery of 18.5 tons of curtain/sofa cloth. Value of the seized inventory is Rs67 million.

In another operation, an oil tanker was intercepted at Gulbai overhead bridge and ASO staff recovered 36,000 liters of smuggled diesel. Value of the seized diesel and vehicle is Rs25 million.
