GWADAR: Customs Intelligence Gwadar (I&I Gwadar) has seized 18 bags of shekhar gutka (50 packets each) which was dumped at Jewani crossing. Total Value of gutka is approximately Rs1.8 million.
Information was passed through Director I&I Gwadar Aga Saeed to Deputy Director Rana Aftab regarding dumping of smuggled goods at place at Jewani. A team led by Intelligence officer Hanif Kurd raided the spot and recovered the smuggled Gutka.
Last week, Customs Intelligence Gwadar has seized large quantity of smuggled goods along with a passenger bus carrying the same worth Rs21.3 million.
An official said miscellaneous foreign origin goods including Irani confectionary, tyres, tiles, cloth, auto parts and cigarettes are transported to Yousuf goth Karachi. Yousuf Goth is the dumping place of smuggled goods. From here, these goods are distributed across the city in around 300 Suzuki pickups.
Customs does not have the capacity and resources to intercept passenger buses. The smugglers have a very organized network of associates along the highways and check posts. And whenever any action is taken, large number of associates of smugglers create law and order situation and block RCD Highway.
Despite all these odds, Customs is making all out efforts to check smuggling.
