KARACHI: Notice was ordered to be issued in a valuation dispute. The order was passed by a custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh while hearing a petition filed by USM Bags, Umar Trading Company and Saif Traders.
Earlier a counsel from Franklin Law Associates representing the petitioners submitted that a large number of petitions have been filed which are pending adjudication.
The counsel placed before court order passed in a petition CP-D 394 of 2022.
The bench after hearing and waiver of notice by State side ordered issuance of notice and tagging this petition with petition 394/2022.
The counsel prayed for release on deposition of disputed amount of duty and taxes in the shape of Pay Order. The bench allowed the request directing the Nazir of SHC to receive and invest money in profitable scheme. The Nazir was also directed to issue a certificate and Custom Authorities were ordered to release the goods as soon as certificate is produced before them.
The controversy pertains to valuation of imported accessories used in bags on the basis of Assessment Alert issued by the Valuation directorate of Pakistan Customs.
