KARACHI: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi raided markets and warehouses in Lyari and Korangi, and recovered large quantity of smuggled goods including cloth and betel nut worth millions of rupees.
Collector Saquif Saeed has established the complete writ of Pakistan Customs across Karachi. There were ‘no-go areas’ for Customs staff including Banaras, Lyari, Landhi, Korangi. These areas were the dumping grounds of smuggled goods, and these goods were then distributed to various markets.
Acting on information regarding presence of smuggled goods, ASO team raided at Mandar wali gali, Lyari Methadar and recovered 45 tons of smuggled / non-duty paid foreign origin prime quality cloth worth Rs.128.85 million.
Moreover, ASO team a godown situation at sector 7 , Korangi Karachi and recovered 1060 PP bags containing 25 tons of smuggled foreign origin impugned Betel Nut worth Rs.25 million.
Member Customs Tariq Huda has appreciated Chief Collector Saifuddin Junejo, Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed, Additional Collector Haroon Waqar Malik, Assistant Collector Shafiullah and Superintendent Iftikhar Hasan.
Tariq Huda has advised the enforcement team to continue their anti-smuggling activities without any fear adding that the trading in smuggled goods should be the most feared thing.
