KARACHI: The hearing of a petition seeking implementation of orders of the Special Customs Appellate Tribunal (SCAT) by Pakistan Coast Guards was adjourned for two weeks giving the respondent side an opportunity to file a challenge to order in field.

The bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan earlier heard Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate, counsel for Syed Hakeem-ullah. She maintained that SCAT passed order in favor of her client on 12-10-2019 ordering release of 950 and 1240 Cigarette sticks of Benson & Hedges brand.

It was further stated that when the petitioner approached the PCG for release of his goods he was forced to sign a statement that confiscated goods in dispute are owned by one Ataullah. This statement was taken under duress and both the witnesses are officials of the respondents, Further the respondent PCG has not filed any Special Customs Reference Application (SCRA) and therefore are bound to obey the orders of the tribunal, contended the counsel for petitioner.

The bench after hearing the sides adjourned further proceedings for two weeks asking the respondents to file a reply and to challenge the order of the tribunal.
