KARACHI: A notice of auction served upon Hikmat Traders, petitioner in petition 6155 of 2019 before High Court of Sindh, was stayed here on Monday by a custom appellate bench of SHC comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan.
Sohail Hameed and Ashique Raza advocates appearing for the petitioners requested for staying the auction notice issued by the custom authorities. They maintained that court in its order has directed the respondents/alleged contemnors to release the consignment of the petitioner if items imported are permissible and not violate Import Policy 2019. The consignment consists of cosmetics, bath room accessories etc.
The respondents instead of releasing the consignment, raised objections accusing and threatening the importer of being involved into case of money laundering etc which is in utter disregard of the court order, they said praying for issuance of contempt of court notice.
The bench after hearing the counsel ordered stayed the auction proceedings while issuing notices to the Collector Customs, Additional Collector, Assistant Collector and Principal Appraiser of Pakistan Customs, Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ) for Nov 14.
