KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Karachi has made remarkable performance in the month of August 2019 seizing large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs28.69 million.

On the directives of Director Irfan Javed ASO led by Superintendent Sikandar Khanzada seized betel nut, smuggled cloth, diesel oil and vehicles during the month.

The seized goods involve duty and taxes of Rs12.46 million. Cases have been made and investigations are underway.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched an anti-smuggling drive today to counter rampant smuggling in the country.

Chairman FBR Syed Shabbar Zaidi tweeted on Sunday the campaign will start on September 2 and will disseminate the message ‘Let Us Stop Buying Smuggled Goods’. He further added that “Smuggling hurts local manufacturing industry, local employment and government revenues.”

Special teams of FBR will conduct inspection at major shopping centers around the country for proper documentation of imported goods
