KARACHI: Marine Group of Companies in collaboration with Pakistan Railway’s Freight Transport Company (PRFTC) hosted a ceremony to celebrate Pakistan’s first ever scheduled freight train under public-private partnership at Marine International Container Terminal (MICT), Premnagar Dry Port.
Pakistan Railway officials, senior custom officials, representatives from business community, (importers, exporters), and clearing agents & forwarders, appreciated the government and private sector’s joint initiative for enhancing the trade activity in the country.
In order to facilitate the transportation needs of the business community, these freight trains will run on daily basis in the first phase and then another train will be added later on Lahore-Karachi track, while other sectors including Multan, Faisalabad and Sialkot would also be added into the network.
MICT is the company of Marine Group, which offers in bonded / non bonded storage and delivery solutions.
The group is confident that this initiative will restore the lost confidence of the traders in railways, and industry could get the maximum benefit from this joint venture.
Federal Minister for Railways, Sh Rasheed Ahmed, recently had inaugurated Pakistan’s first public private sector rail cargo transportation facility in Karachi, while addressing the media the federal minister vowed to revive Pakistan Railways, with the help of private sector in short span of time.
