KARACHI: A Customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mrs Ashraf Jahan on Friday sought a report from respondent custom officials by Oct 30 regarding 14 out of 27 consignments detained by them.

The bench earlier heard a counsel from Franklin Law Associates who submitted that petitioner company Empire Trading imported a consignment of Melamine Door Skin and filed a Goods Declaration. The consignment was however assessed under Valuation Ruling 925 of 2018. The petitioner challenged the same before DG Valuation who remanded the same for determination of fresh VR. VR 1787 of 2017 was subsequently passed during which 27 identical consignments landed at Karachi Port.

The customs released 13 petitions while 14 were detained for un-explained reasons. The bench today after hearing the counsel for petitioner sought a report from the respondents by Oct 30 that why remaining consignments were detained.
