KARACHI: Although a division bench of High Court of Sindh has declared the contributions to Workers Welfare Fund as tax as back as 2013 but the controversy is back to High Court, this time questioned by Amanah Investment Limited.
Citing the Secretary Federal Board of Revenue, Commissioner Inland Revenue (IR) Zone I and Deputy Commissioner IR ENF& COLL with WHT Unit, Zone I, RTO, the applicant filing a Special Tax Reference Application (STRA) submit that it was an unlisted public limited company, managed and regulated by Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Karachi Stock Exchange new PSX.
The applicant impinges show cause notices issued by the respondent Deputy Commissioner for the tax year,2010,2011,2012 and 2013 all dated 28-1-2016. The applicant raises the controversy that WWF contributions cannot be taxed.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi after a brief hearing adjourned further proceedings till Dec 05.
WWF was established to provide residential facilities and other support to the low paid workers of industrial establishment.
