KARACHI: In a significant move to enhance data management and security, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established a Data Governance Office under the Directorate General of IT & Digital Transformation (DT). This new office is designed to ensure the effective implementation of the FBR’s Data Governance and Information Security Policy.

The office will be led by two key positions:

1. Chief (Chief Data Management & Governance): This role will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Data Governance Policy, managing and utilizing data including analytics, and coordinating with all wings and field offices of the FBR. The Chief will also focus on innovations in data management, including the use of AI and ML technologies. All requests for information and the development of Management Information System (MIS) reports will be routed through this position.

2. Chief (Data Acquisition & Integration): This position will handle liaison with third parties for data acquisition, identify the required fields of data, and ensure proper integration for efficient utilization of Business Transformation and revenue mobilization. The Chief will also monitor the flow of data into the FBR system and propose actions against non-compliance, while disseminating usable data to FBR field formations to ensure transparent utilization.

The establishment of the Data Governance Office marks a significant step towards enhancing the FBR’s data management capabilities and ensuring the secure and efficient use of data across its operations.
