KARACHI: The healthcare sector is grappling with significant challenges following the implementation of a new clearance system for medical devices by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
A formal request has been made to exempt critical medical devices, including in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) and hospital products, from this new system.
The letter, addressed to a respected authority, outlines the pressing issues caused by the new clearance procedures. It highlights that these medical products are essential for addressing urgent public health challenges.
However, the recent changes have led to substantial delays in the availability of these critical items, thereby hindering healthcare providers and jeopardizing patient care and safety.
The letter further emphasizes that many of these medical devices, especially IVDs and certain hospital products, are temperature-sensitive and require swift and efficient clearance to maintain their integrity and effectiveness. Any delays in the process can result in the degradation of these items, complicating healthcare delivery.
In light of these circumstances, the author respectfully requests that the FBR consider exempting these medical devices from the new clearance requirements. This exemption would facilitate timely access to vital medical equipment and ensure that healthcare professionals can continue to provide necessary services without disruption.
The healthcare community is hopeful for a favorable response from the FBR, recognizing the importance of uninterrupted access to essential medical devices in improving healthcare services in Pakistan.
