Karachi: In a significant development, customs authorities intercepted a consignment of high-value goods misdeclared by M/s. Adnan Enterprises, located at S-02, Anum Palace, Bohri Road Opp. Custom House, Karachi. The consignment, filed under Goods Declaration No. KAPW-HC-85080-03-12-2024, was initially cleared through the Green Channel, declared to contain 20,800 kilograms of Cutch Block, valued at US$ 12,114 (equivalent to Rs. 3,441,512).
Acting on credible information provided by Collector Appraisement West Naveed Ilahi, Deputy Collector R&D Saima Butt, and Appraising Officer Imran Haider, the consignment was intercepted at the gate-out stage for further examination. Initial scans and subsequent physical inspection revealed the presence of undeclared high-value items, including 5.5 tonnes of artificial jewellery, hair accessories, and brass chains.
The declared duties and taxes paid amounted to Rs. 954,665, whereas the assessment of undeclared goods led to a recalculation of duties and taxes to Rs. 29,901,362. By misdeclaring the contents of the consignment, the importer attempted to evade duties and taxes amounting to Rs. 28,946,697.
M/s. Adnan Enterprises violated multiple provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, including Sections 2(s), 32(1), (2), and 79(1), along with relevant sections of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Consequently, an FIR has been lodged against the importer for attempting to deceive customs authorities and evade substantial duties and taxes.
The customs authorities are committed to maintaining strict vigilance and ensuring compliance with legal requirements to prevent such fraudulent activities.
