KARACHI: Issuance of notice to respondent owner of a Toyota Vitz car was ordered by a custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh for a date to be fixed by the office of the court. The order of Custom Appellate Tribunal in Custom Appeal No 2676 of 2024 was also suspended by the SHC bench till further orders.

The orders came in a Special Custom Reference Application filed by Director General, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigations, Pakistan Customs represented by Khalid Mehmood Rajpar Advocate.

As per details, the vehicle was intercepted at Mochko Custom Chowki and 1026 packets of smuggled, foreign brand Gutka was recovered during checking by Police who handed over the vehicle to custom officials.

Arguing the SCRA, counsel for Pakistan Custom submitted that during departmental proceedings no one came forward to claim ownership of Gutka or vehicle. However after passing of Order in Original one Amir Muhammad, resident of Quetta claimed the ownership in custom appeal before the Tribunal.

The Custom Appellate Tribunal ordered release of vehicle against re-demption fine 20 per cent of the value determined by Pakistan Customs.

The order of release is under challenged in SCRA 902/2024.
