Karachi: In the early hours of today, at approximately 2 AM, vigilant customs officials at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi successfully intercepted a passenger attempting to smuggle a significant amount of foreign currency out of the country. The passenger, identified as Shehzad, was scheduled to depart for Doha on flight QR 605. During a thorough examination of his baggage, customs staff discovered approximately USD 20,000 concealed within his belongings.
The operation was initiated under the special instructions of Collector Adeem Khan, who had directed Additional Collector Faisal Khan to enhance surveillance at the airport. Acting on these directives, Additional Collector Faisal Khan instructed Deputy Collector Hammad to maintain strict vigilance. Deputy Collector Hammad, known for his competence and energetic approach, led the team that intercepted Shehzad.
The seized currency has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings. An FIR is being lodged to identify and apprehend other facilitators, abettors, and financiers involved in this smuggling attempt. Authorities are also investigating the potential involvement of Hawala/Hundi networks and money laundering activities.
This incident is part of a broader crackdown by the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) JIAP against smuggling activities. Recently, MCC JIAP successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle heroin, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to curbing illegal activities and ensuring the security of the nation’s borders.
