Mr. Mehmood ul Hasan Awan, General Secretary of the Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA), informed through a press release that in pursuance of the Prime Minister’s recent decision to establish a regulatory authority for the shipping sector, a comprehensive meeting was held on July 24, 2024, under the supervision of the worthy Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all relevant stakeholders, including FPCCI, KCCI, All Pakistan Shipping Association, Pakistan Ship’s Agents Association, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association and Karachi Customs Agents Association. All participants of the meeting unanimously agreed that a Regulatory Authority should be formed for the shipping sector to facilitate the trade and business community.

Mr. Mehmood ul Hasan Awan further informed that in response to suggestions pertaining to the issuance of pre-arrival Delivery Orders, the representative of the All Pakistan Shipping Association announced that, in cases where Goods Declarations (GD) are filed, pre-arrival delivery orders will be issued by the shipping companies in advance. Moreover, the State Bank of Pakistan also assured that under the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) initiative, they will expedite the clearance of goods by performing their functions electronically.

KCAA acknowledges and appreciates the vision and positive approach of the Honorable Prime Minister towards trade facilitation. KCAA also assures their support and cooperation in implementing the decisions taken.
