KARACHI: Customs Appraisement South comprising Customs Appraisement East, Customs Appraisement SAPT, Customs Appraisement West and Customs Appraisement East Port Qasim have collected a total revenue of Rs2.25 trillion for the year ended June 30, 2024, which is around 53% higher than the cumulative Appraisement South revenue collection of Rs1.7 trillion.
Very competent officers based on the reports of intelligence agencies were posted in these collectorates. Jameel Baloch is Collector Appraisement East assisted by Additional Collectors Imran Lillah and Amjad Leghari.
Ali Zaman Gardezi is Collector SAPT assisted by Additional Collectors Haroon Malik, Akbar Jan and Imran Razzak. Irfan Wahid is Collector Appraisement West assisted by Additional Collectors Javed Sarwar Shaikh and Zubair Shah. Rashid Habib is Collector Port Qasim assisted by Additional Collectors Basit Hussain, Riaz Hussain and Amanullah Soomro. These team have performed exceptionally well.
Central Selection Board meeting will be held in the first half of July which will be followed by large scale transfers and postings.
Performing officers such as in Karachi and Baluchistan and other stations will be given new responsibilities while under performers will be put in the admin pool.
It was known that transfers and postings are no more based on favoritism or bargaining, but on the basis of performance and intelligence agency reports.
An official said these are strategic administrative positions and demand much caution in appointments.
Total Customs duty collection during the year stood at Rs741 billion compared with Rs630 million in the previous year. Customs Appraisement East topped the list with Customs duty collection of Rs281.8 billion for the year ended June 30, 2024, which is 30.5% higher than Rs216.2 billion collected in the previous year. It may be mentioned here that from this year Appraisement East has been bifurcated in Customs Appraisement East and Customs Appraisement SAPT. On standalone basis, East collected duty of Rs119.7 billion and SAP collected duty of Rs162 billion.
Customs Appraisement West collected CD of Rs180.7 billion in FY24, up 33% from Rs136.2 billion previous year. Port Qasim collected CD of Rs278.5 billion in FY24, compared with Rs277.8 billion previous year.
Similarly, total Sales Tax collection during the year stood at Rs1.5 trillion, up 14% compared with Rs1.38 trillion in the previous year. Customs Appraisement East reported ST collection of Rs606.36 billion for the year ended June 30, 2024, which is 29% higher than Rs469.8 billion collected in the previous year. On standalone basis, East collected ST of Rs241 billion and SAPT collected duty of Rs365.3 billion.
Customs Appraisement West collected ST of Rs301.19 billion in FY24, up 31% from Rs230.5 billion previous year. Port Qasim collected ST of Rs673.2 billion in FY24, compared with Rs681.1 billion previous year.
