KARACHI: President of Pakistan has modified the order of Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) recommending cancellation of a car auction conducted by I&I Quetta. The President maintained that the successful bidder despite paying the bid amount hadn’t received the delivery of the vehicle and ordered the amount should be refunded to the bidder.

The complainant filed a complaint under Section 10(1) of the FTO Ordinance, 2001 against Mr. Abdul Haye Sheikh, Additional Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation in Quetta, for allegedly rigging the auction of a car.

Mr. Sheikh stated that the auction was conducted legally and transparently and that it was uploaded on the FBR website. He said that many people participated in the auction, which included several lots of vehicles and goods, among them a Toyota Premio Car 1800 CC of Model 2007 with Lot No.55/2022.

He said that Mr. Qaim Khan bid Rs.25,25,000 for a Toyota Premio car, which was only 96% of the Reserve Price and hence it was rejected. Another auction was held later and Mr. Arshad Khan made a bid of Rs26,50,000 which was a little higher than the reserved price. But, despite lapse of considerable time, Arshad khan did not get the delivery.

Mr. Shaikh approved the bid. Ten days after the auction Mr. Shaikh was transferred from Quetta to Karachi. He denied that he or his family member wanted to buy the car or that he used any threatening language with the complainant or anyone else.
