The Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta has made multiple seizures of non-duty paid items in the last week, following the directions of the Director General, I&I, Islamabad. The seized items include foreign origin almonds, cigarettes, black tea, auto parts, toiletries, steel wire rope, solar panels and cars. The total value of the seized goods and vehicles is estimated to be 104 million rupees.
On the instructions and information passed through DG I&I Faiz Ahmed to Director I&I Quetta Nadeem Memon, the seizures were made on different dates and locations in the region. On September 29, 2023, a team of Customs Intelligence & Investigation intercepted a truck carrying 249 bags of foreign origin almonds with shell weighing between 50 to 70 kgs each. The almonds and the truck were seized for being non-duty paid and having a combined value of 24 million rupees.
On September 26, 2023, another team of Customs Intelligence & Investigation raided a warehouse in Quetta and recovered 140,000 sticks of foreign origin Pine cigarettes worth 2.8 million rupees. The team also seized two non-duty paid cars, a Toyota Premio model 2005 worth 8 million rupees and a Toyota Corolla X model 2005 worth 4.5 million rupees.
On the same day, another team of Customs Intelligence & Investigation intercepted a container truck near Mastung and recovered miscellaneous non-duty paid smuggled items including foreign origin cigarettes of various brands, black tea, auto parts, toiletries, steel wire rope etc. The value of the goods and the truck was estimated to be 67 million rupees.
On September 26, 2023, yet another team of Customs Intelligence & Investigation intercepted a truck near Khuzdar and recovered miscellaneous non-duty paid smuggled items including solar panels and auto parts worth 25 million rupees. The truck was also seized for being non-duty paid and having a value of 12 million rupees.
Further proceedings in the cases have been initiated in accordance with law and that the Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta is committed to curb smuggling activities in the region.
