KARACHI: The leadership of Businessmen Group and Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) have highly appreciated Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori for advocating Karachi Chamber’s stance against inflated electricity bills during his meetings in Islamabad held to discuss some of the most pressing issues of Karachi, particularly the inflated electricity bills which were unbearable and unaffordable to the business community, small traders, shopkeepers and inhabitants of Karachi.

In a joint statement issued, Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala, Vice Chairmen BMG Tahir Khaliq, Haroon Farooki, Anjum Nisar & Jawed Bilwani, General Secretary BMG AQ Khalil, President KCCI Mohammed Tariq Yousuf, Senior Vice President Touseef Ahmed, Vice President Haris Agar, Chairman Special Committee Majeed Memon and Chairman Public Sector Utilities Subcommittee Aamir Churra stated that Governor Sindh held detailed discussions with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Caretaker Energy Minister Muhammad Ali and Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar with whom Governor Sindh vociferously conveyed Karachi Chamber’s deep concerns over the unaffordable electricity bills, which have terribly affected the trade, economic and commercial activities of Karachi. We are also very grateful to Governor for presenting KCCI’s suggestions at these meeting for efficiently dealing with the inflated electricity bills issue”, they added.

While referring to Karachi Chamber’s recent meeting with all Chambers of Commerce, representatives of Small Traders/ Shopkeepers and Industrial Town Associations which was also attended by Governor Sindh via zoom facility, BMG and KCCI Leadership said that the entire business community highly appreciates Governor Sindh for fulfilling his commitment made during the said meeting by immediately holding meetings with Caretaker Prime Minister and others on his return from abroad.

They hoped that the Meetings held in Islamabad to discuss the inflated electricity bills would soon yield positive results in the form of substantial reduction in electricity tariffs which was badly needed to save businesses, economy and public from further disaster. Keeping in view the overall inflationary scenario, the caretaker government should be extraordinary careful in taking steps and try its best to refrain from further burdening the already overburdened trade and industrial community, they added.
