The Department of Plant Protection (DPP), Pakistan’s national plant protection organization, has announced that commercial exports of all items falling under its purview will be completely shifted to the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) system from 6th June 2023.
The PSW system is an online platform that integrates all regulatory agencies involved in cross-border trade, such as customs, quarantine, standards, etc. The system aims to facilitate trade by reducing time, cost and complexity of clearance procedures.
According to the DPP, exporters of plant products such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, cut flowers, etc. will be required to file a single declaration (SD) through the PSW system for obtaining electronic Phyto-sanitary certificates from the DPP and customs clearance of their export consignments.
The DPP has requested all exporters engaged in export of plant products to comply with the new system and ensure that their consignments meet the Phyto-sanitary requirements of the importing countries.
The DPP is a department under the Ministry of National Food Security and Research that performs regulatory, advisory, research and extension roles in the arena of plant protection in Pakistan. The DPP enforces the Pakistan Plant Quarantine Act 1976 and the International Standards for Phyto-sanitary Measures (ISPMs) developed under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
