Asim Ahmed, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), will leave Pakistan on June 9, 2023 to join the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Ahmed’s term as Chairman FBR completes on July 17, 2023, but he will be leaving a little early to take up his new position at the ADB.
Ahmed was appointed Chairman FBR in October 2021. During his tenure, he has overseen a number of reforms at the FBR, including the introduction of a new tax amnesty scheme and the launch of a new taxpayer portal. He has also played a key role in the government’s efforts to increase tax collection.
Sources said that the Cabinet Division has finalized the name of Nadeem Rizvi, Member Admin–FBR, to be the new Chairman FBR. Rizvi is from the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) and has over 30 years of experience in the tax administration. He is currently serving as the Member Admin at the FBR, where he is responsible for the overall administration of the Board.
Rizvi’s appointment is seen as a positive development by many in the tax administration. He is a well-respected and experienced officer who is known for his commitment to reform. His appointment is expected to provide continuity at the FBR and to help the Board continue to implement its reform agenda.
The departure of Asim Ahmed and the appointment of Nadeem Rizvi are significant developments for the FBR. Ahmed has been a key figure in the Board’s recent reforms, and his departure will be a loss. However, Rizvi is a well-qualified and experienced officer who is expected to continue the Board’s reform agenda. His appointment is a positive development for the FBR and for the tax administration in Pakistan.
