HYDERABAD: Customs Preventive – Sukkur seized large quantity of smuggled goods, which were being smuggled from Quetta.
Although the prevalence and exact scale of the smuggling of goods remain unknown, the consequences are widespread. An obvious impact is that once these products are smuggled at low prices into the market, the same product sold at the original price is ultimately less attractive, generating large losses in revenues for both law-abiding companies and governments. It has come so far as robbing governments of tax revenue, fueling corruption and terrorism, and subsidizing other forms of illicit trade such as drugs, arms and human trafficking.
Moreover, foreign currency demand in the open market increases and a black market is created. Smuggling also increases informal (hundi/hawala) market causing even more damage to the forex situation.
Given precarious economic situation and scarcity of foreign exchange, Customs Preventive Hyderabad has further expedited the anti-smuggling activities.
Information was passed through Collector Preventive Hyderabad Mumtaz Khoso to Additional Collector Dawood Pirzada that huge quantity of smuggled goods are being transported from Quetta.
Subsequently, one 10 Wheeler Truck was intercepted at Shaheed Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh Check Post Jacobabad. These foreign origin goods were booked by M/s Super Pak Noor Goods Company, Quetta under Bitty in the name of same person Mr. Bilal (Sender / Receiver) under a vague description “full load parchoon”.
However, GDs produced by the driver are irrelevant, very old and in fact used to smuggle non duty paid goods. Moreover, no valid import documents were provided in respect of Bardana, Pistachu, Imli, Kajoo and Almonds.
