KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi (I&I Karachi) has lodged has lodged two FIRs against the drivers of two separate vehicles, which were seized loaded with smuggled Iranian fuel.

On the directives of Director Saqif Saeed, Additional Director Umar Shafiq formed a team under the supervision of Deputy Director Amjad Rajper comprising Senior Intelligence Officers Akmal Hashmi, Muhammad Sadiq, Soha Khan, Muhammad Irshad and Humair to conduct a crackdown on the movement of smuggled fuel.

The ASO team mounted surveillance near GulBai, Mauripur Road and intercepted an oil tanker. The tanker was found loaded with petrol. The driver of the vehicle produced a Goods Transfer Note purportedly issued by M/s Byco Petroleum for delivery of 60,000 liters of petrol to Al Mumtaz Petroleum Services Daulatpur. The note was found fake.

Similarly, surveillance was mounted on Native Jetty Bridge, and a tanker was intercepted loaded with 28,000 liters of HSD Oil. Again, the driver of the vehicle produced a Delivery Advice issued by Byco Petroleum, and again it was declared fake by the company.

Both the vehicles and fuel were seized and FIR lodged for further investigation.
